
Zinedine Zidane has kissed goodbye to €6
million, the salary he would have receiced for
the final year of his contract at Real Madrid
before retiring at the of last season.
The former France
playmaker says he won't touch "a single
euro" from that sum in payment for the
work he does between now and the end of the
contract with Real's youngster or in his new
role as the club's ambassador.
"Zidane's
behaviour has been exemplary, worthy of a star
of his stature," said a real director quoted
by Spanish sports daily AS.
As added that
Zidane, sent off for that infamous headbutt
in the World Cup Final against Italy last month,
plans to continue living in the Spanish capital
where he is in the process building home. The
paper als oreports that real are considering
paying homeage to the Galactico with a fixture
against his former Les Bleus' teamates.
Meanwhile, as
France prepare to start their Euro 2006 qualifying
campaign in Georgia on Saturday before hosting
World champions Italy four days later, the inspirational
former captain will be most missed.
Without a top-level
playmaker, France coach Raym,ond Domenech knows
he can nmo longer bank on the sophisticated
4-2-3-1 line up used at World Cup and is expected
to revert to 4-4-2.
